Hello to all,
Is there a possibility of making HostsServer a Background Running Service in XP?
Right now, HostsServer is running at 7,060kb and hovers at about 1,000kb less when I am off the internet...
This may be a bit much of a performance hit for many older systems, even some systems that are only a few years old.
It could have a default setting set at Manual, meaning that it will load up as any other service would in XP but not right at start-up and the service only kicks in when the system hops on the Internet.
Then, when the system goes off the Internet, the hostssrv.exe background service will shut down itself until that system goes back online.
I mean, right now it is part of my start-up and I try to keep as few things as possible from fireing up with my start-up, to keep my start-up as fast as possible.
Currently, my start-up (from a ice-cold boot) is just under 2 minutes!
This idea could also be used with the new Internal DNS Resolver (experimental) in the new 3.2.66 Beta2 version.
These ideas could also be very useful for folks using Vista, where I understand gaining performance and freeing up resources are always an issue!
Possible?
Thanks!
