I am running Vista SP1 Business and HostsMan V3.2.66 Beta2 with IE7 and cable modem.
I've had two occasions where all websites suddenly return "Page Not Available". If I stop/exit HostServer, the website access returns. On restarting HostServer all websites are available again. Nothing "unique" shows up in the HostServer log.
I do not recall ever seeing this with previous versions of HostsMan.
That's strange because there's nothing different in the server when compared with previous versions. In this version, HostsServer now can be set to listen to multiple IPs/Ports, however, that ability always existed, but it didn't have a way to configure it.
Can you tell me the settings from "Preferences" > "Advanced" tab?
Also, the next time that happens, do not disable HostServer. Try another browser and see if it works. If you don't have another browser, try another application that connects to the internet (IM, e-mail, rss client, etc.).
Under Preferences>Advanced:
HTTP status code to return: 200 - Ok
Bindings
127.0.0.1 80
The first time this happened, I did run a couple of different program LiveUpdaters and they were able to access the Internet okay. I tried this before I stopped HostServer. I don't have another browser...only IE7.
The problem has only occurred twice in the days since Beta2 was released. So it may take some time for it to happen again.
Just before this happened today, I accessed a web page that for some reason would not open after IE7 said it was found. So I closed IE7. Then I tried www.google.com and the problem was there....page not found....on any webpage I tried. Stopping HostServer allowed me to start accessing web pages again.
I just had this happen again. No programs could access the Internet this time. In HostsMan, I flushed the DNS Cache. Connection returned immediately. I did not close down Hostserver this...just flushed the Cache.
This is on my Vista SP1 system. I don't run the XP-SP3 system often enough to see if it will occur there too.
Thanks for the additional info. I'll continue to investigate this.
