Title: Huge Delays When Clicking Links

jon_bondy - May 5, 2008 12:01 AM (GMT)
I just started using HostsMan. All of a sudden, there is a 3-4 second delay when I click most links. Could this be due to HostsMan, or the underlying files? Is there a way to temporarily disable the HostsMan functions, to see if the clicking delays disappear?

Thanks!

Jon

Hello Jon,

A little more info about the OS that you are running would be helpfull.
Did you disable DNS Client service?
This can be found under Tools/Options/System.

You can disable HostMan after you have opened it and click on the big green H icon within the program. It will turn to red. To enable host files again you just repeat the process and click on the red H to enable.

I'm running Win XP Pro SP2; DNS Client service is disabled (is this a good thing?!?)

I just tried disabling some of my FireFox plugins, and that seemed to help. Disabling HostsMan did not resolve the problem, so I doubt that it is the cause of the click delays.

Thanks!

Jon, the DNS Client Service is only needed if you a part of a corporation's network so it is not needed and can slow down browser access tremendously.

I am running XP Home, Pro and occasionaly WinME with no slow connection speed as mine is rated for 6MB.

I do not use Firefox as I find that IE7 with IE7Pro add-on does everything that Firefox can do and is equal if not faster than Firefox:

How are you connected to the Internet?
DSL or cable and who is your Internet Service provider?
What is the speed rating?

What is the CPU rating in GHZ?
How much RAM do you have?

Now that you say you are using FF then its probably an issue with the plug-ins.
That would be my best bet.

I also run FF as secondary browser and for other things too and notice that it is very slow to take off compared to Opera which is blazing fast IMO.
